Bollywood "Invasion" Continues - Stallone, Schwarzenegger In Bollywood Film

If you've been reading this blog, you've surely read the 2 entries I've posted on Bollywood's aggressive partnerships with Hollywood talent and executives. If you haven't, feel free to catch up HERE and HERE.

Aside from the Spielberg/Reliance $500 Million deal which hasn't been solidified yet, but looks like it will be, we're starting to see some fruits of this so-called Bollywood "invasion."

From Times UK:

Sylvester Stallone is to become the first well-known Hollywood actor to star in a Bollywood movie... Arnold Schwarzenegger will also feature in the production.

The two will appear alongside Bollywood stars Ashkay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor in a film called Incredible Love, the story of an Indian stuntman who takes Hollywood by storm but cannot find true love there (hmmm... ok).

The film will be the first Indian production to be shot at Hollywood’s Universal Studios and will have the highest budget in Bollywood history: more than £11m (about $22 Million).

Sajid Nadiadwala, the producer, said his success in landing Stallone and Schwarzenegger reflected the growing power of the Indian film market and Bollywood’s increasing cooperation with Hollywood studios that are keen to cut costs.

My guess is that the appearance of Stallone and Schwarzenegger will amount to nothing more than brief cameos. I can't see either of them getting involved in anything much more than that. But, I could be surprised! We'll see, I guess.

Other Hollywood stars who have recently signed agreements with Indian entertainment companies include Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Nicolas Cage. So, expect to see a lot more cross-continental productions.

However, as the article suggests, Bollywood would likely come out of these agreements the bigger winner as "India would remain a difficult market for Hollywood to crack..." since they "have too strong a film culture" already over there.

    Stallone and Schwarzenegger!?

Why do I get the feeling that Bollywood might just end up being the movie equivalent of Vegas for some former star actors?

    *Groan*

And for people like Pitt and Clooney, I'm guessing it'll be like an extension of them appearing in ads in markets outside of the US - a little money spinner without their movie star reputations being too sullied back home.

    *sigh*
