DOWN THE PIKE - Tyler Perry Strikes Again... So Soon!

I'm laughing my ass off as I type this, given how much I know many of you despise the ever-prolific Mr Perry and his works!

Consider my site to be the Fox News of cinema blogging - I report; you decide :o)

Moving right along...

According to Production Weekly, after the record-shattering weekend box office opening for his latest film, Madea Goes To Jail, Tyler Perry and Lionsgate are wasting no time in going into production on his next kitschy celluloid morality tale.

According to PW, Perry will next bring his play I Can Do Bad All By Myself, to the big-screen for Lionsgate, with filming set to begin next month in Atlanta!

Wow, right?

No info was provided on who will star in it. Speculation... speculation... Might this be the script Perry claims he wrote specifically for Jennifer Hudson? I don't know, nor do I particularly care.

But given how quickly homeboy continues to shoot these things out, and a March production start date, we should expect to see another Tyler Perry film in theatres before the end of this year - guaranteed!

Place your bets, while I laugh myself to sleep...!

    watching it now.
back home most people feel a certain way about him being from the n.o. and all then not giving back.

Good for him. I haven't seen Madea Goes to Jail yet but I plan on seeing it. I just hope that he diversifies his projects, producing things that doesn't star in or write.

@ SolShine7: I doubt that your hope will manifest. Lionsgate and Perry have a winning formula. The moment Perry decides to diversify, say, by creating something intelligent rather than his usual lowest common denominator pulp, Lionsgate will back out.

Lionsgate is milking a cash cow and Perry is lactating like his life depends on it... after all, there's only so long before his udders run dry or they go and find some newer man-teats to squeeze.

    Personally, I'm lactose intolerant.

hehe. I think Perry will be happy when doesn't have to play Madea anymore. One of his best movies was Daddy's Little Girls where he was totally behind the camera and he had Gabrielle Union and Idris Elba take the lead. I truly think wants more of that.

Needless today, I'm not looking forward to this film and won't be seeing it. As someone recently said, black peole act like you're attacking the Pope when you say something negative about Perry. The guy is lousy filmmaker... period. Just because his films make money means that he's a genuis. Michael Bay's films have made millions. but he still sucks as a filmmaker. I have no problem with Perry's message, but I wish he could just do it better. Those films based on T.J. Jakes' books, Woman Thou Are Loosed and Not Easily Broken, were far superiur to any of Perry's movies. Then again they were both made by filmmakers who know which end of the camera to look through

However, bkyln6 makes an interesting point and it's something I've told other people. I think if Perry finally just came out of the closet and just be his real self, it would free him as a filmmaker and allow him to really expand his craft instead of making the same old crap over and over and over...

Who knows? There could be another Gus Van Sant hiding underneath
