Uhura Speaks About Avatar

Found this interview that Zoe Saldana did recently with io9.com in which she talks about her upcoming turn as Lieutenant Commander Uhura in the JJ Abrams directed Star Trek movie (a role most of us will likely always remember the divine Nichelle Nichols for), and her role in what will likely be the biggest film of her career up until its release, anyway - of course I'm talking about her starring performance in James Cameron's ambitious, by all acounts, 3-D science fiction film, Avatar - a project 13 years in the making and a whopping $200 Million budget!!

As both films won't be released until next year (Star Trek in May and Avatar in December) she doesn't give a lot of details about what we can expect in each project. But she does talk about meeting the original Uhura, conversations they shared, the rumors that the skirts in this new Star Trek are shorter than those in the original show, the intense six-month physical prep she had to endure for Avatar, working with James Cameron, and when we can expect to see a trailer for it, and a few other somewhat frivolous items :o)

I'm really looking forward to both films (not because of Zoe, mind you; the names behind the camera are the draw), so anything that shows up on my radar with regard to either of project will likely get posted on this blog. JJ Abrams the wunderkind creator of TV's Lost, and the dizzying yet captivating Cloverfield has recently gotten attention. James Cameron's resume is chuck-full of solid blockbuster movies - Aliens, Terminator 1 & 2, True Lies, and of course Titanic, still the highest grossing film of all time, amongst others.

However, I think we can all agree that 2009 will be a big year for Zoe Saldana! The decisions she makes immediately after working with 2 of the more respected directors in the biz will certainly be crucial for career longetivity.

I'm looking forward to both films as well, whether Zoe Saldana is in them or not :^) for the same reasons as yours.

I haven't seen that Uhura/Kirk kiss in a long time. I played it back several times. Ha!
