Brand New Trailer For Vin Diesel's Next - 'Babylon A.D.'
Based on the novel by Maurice G. Dantec, Babylon A.D. tells the story of a mercenary (Diesel) who must escort and protect a woman. Unknown to him is that this same woman is playing host to what a cult think could become the next Messiah. The film also stars the fabulous Michelle Yeoh, and Gerard Depardieu, and is directed by Frenchman, Mathieu Kassovitz, responsible for the 1996 cult classic, La Haine (aka Hate). The film hits theatres August 29th. Whadaya think? I can't help but get a Children of Men vibe from it (a film I liked) given the storyline specifically. I'll probably see it though.
The fact that they're opening it the last week of August isn't a good sign. That's the time when studios always dump their hopeless, loser movies. Also there have been articles about the major production problems (Diesel and the director didn't get along at all among other problems)during the making of the film and there was a report a few weeks ago that they're radically cutting down the movie to 90 minutes which if true is another really bad sign
All very bad signs indeed! As the release date draws near, I'm sure more details (good and/or bad) will be revealed. Diesel needs a hit! He hasn't been in one in a long time.
Diesel for sure knows that too which is why he's right now making Fast and Furious 4! When all else fails, go back to what you know that works.
Then again that Pacifier movie made over $100 million, but Pacifier 2 would have been too obviously an act of despertaion
I don't know about this one. It doesn't look appealing to me. I never really cared for VD's work anyway, so I'm biased. He just kind of turns me off with his hyper-masculine shtick. I'd like to see him lose some body mass, and go do Shakespeare in the park or something Lol. I'm kidding -- but seriously, he irks me -- at least the VD the public figure.
I've not had a chance to look at the trailer (I'm at work and my headphones are at home) but I'm with Albertine, imagining VD playing the kind of role that Clive Owen does in Children of Men... I could be wrong, but I just can't see it.
@ Albertine
Rent the Sidney Lumet film Find Me Guilty which barely got released in 2006. Diesel gives, without question, the best performance he's ever done to date in that film. If more people has seen it seen (if they even knew it existed) he wouldn't be stuck now doing Fast and Furious 4
