FRIDAY FUNNIES - Barack Stars In "The District"

Who knew that the Newsweek magazine staff could actually be creative and funny! Certainly not me... then again, I'm not an avid Newsweek reader, so...

Anyway, browsing over their website earlier today, I stumbled upon this wonderful little online video series they've created called The District, which is essentially a spoof of several MTV-like reality TV programs like The Hills, The Real World, and others. I'm sure you're all somewhat familiar with those titles.

The kicker? The District asks the question: ever wonder what it would be like if the makers of MTV's hit program The City, made a reality show about President Barack Obama's first 100 days in office?

Well, wonder no more!

Newsweek gives a red, white and blue makeover to "The City," the goes-down-easy MTV reality show about beautiful people taking over Gotham. Follow (Whitney) Barack as he moves into sprawling new digs in (Gramercy) Northwest D.C, battles (machinating socialites) Republicans and plays host to a bitchin' (gallery) inaugural party in this installment of (girl-rock crescendo; pregnant pause)..."The District."

I. Am. So. There :o)

The first episode appeared on Newsweek's website earlier this week, on Monday, and a new episode will be available for viewing weekly. So, check back next Monday for an all-new episode of... The District.

I wish I had thought of this! Smart and funny!

This comedy troupe borrowed the now famous "Mac vs. PC" commercials, and created a parody that humorously illuminates the differences between the Hollywood studio system, and the independents. There are a total of 4 videos thus far - each about 1.5 minutes which you can see at FunnyOrDie.com.

What Bush and Batman Have in Common

I know, I know... your immediate reaction was probably similar to mine - sonorous laughter!

This has to be good, right?

Rupert Murdoch's conservative influence is becoming evident in the Wall Street Journal editorials.

Here are some snippets from the op-ed piece by Andrew Klavan, who, by the way, I hear sometimes moonlights as the Joker (nyuck, nyuck, nyuck...):

- There seems to me no question that the Batman film "The Dark Knight," currently breaking every box office record in history, is at some level a paean of praise to the fortitude and moral courage that has been shown by George W. Bush in this time of terror and war. Like W, Batman is vilified and despised for confronting terrorists in the only terms they understand. Like W, Batman sometimes has to push the boundaries of civil rights to deal with an emergency, certain that he will re-establish those boundaries when the emergency is past.

- "The Dark Knight," then, is a conservative movie about the war on terror. And like another such film, last year's "300," "The Dark Knight" is making a fortune depicting the values and necessities that the Bush administration cannot seem to articulate for beans.

- And when our artistic community is ready to show that sometimes men must kill in order to preserve life; that sometimes they must violate their values in order to maintain those values; and that while movie stars may strut in the bright light of our adulation for pretending to be heroes, true heroes often must slink in the shadows, slump-shouldered and despised -- then and only then will we be able to pay President Bush his due and make good and true films about the war on terror.

Oh, OK. I guess he sure told us!

The writer seems to be forgetting the part about The Dark Knight's unwavering moral code, including his willingness to risk his own life for the service of societal good, done without any expectations of a reward, as well as his refusal to kill even his worst enemies - all character traits that seem to be absent in Bush. And let's not forget TDK's sense of responsibility and strong belief in justice for all (not just for his cronies) as well as in humanitarian service.

Did you know that the original title for Will Smith's Hancock was Tonight He Comes? Well, it's true.

A friend of mine jokingly pointed out the coincidental phallic references evident in both titles, wondering if the creative minds behind the film were indeed aware, implying that maybe the name change wasn't so coincidental... hmmm...

HanCOCK and Tonight He COMES... obvious emphasis on the bolded capitalized words.

Get it?

They could have just called it Cock Comes! :o)

Yeah, I know, it's silly and immature, but it's Friday, so WHATEVER!

Friday Funnies - Still Doing The Shuffle?

I've seen Hollywood Shuffle countless times - probably Robert Townsend's best work ever! He hasn't made anything quite as appealing since! Found the following 2 clips on YouTube...  I love the caustic humor prevalent throughout the film, and in the below 2 clips. Funny, yet unfortunate. Has much changed since then (1988) - especially with regards to the first clip?
